Bring your current registration (renewal) or proof of ownership (bill of sale, manufacturer's certificate of origin, or title).

  2. 2

Provide valid ID and proof of Maine residency.

  3. 3

Pay the registration fee (based on length and horsepower of the vessel).

  4. 4

Receive your registration certificate and decals, which must be displayed on the vessel.

What You'll Need

  • Proof of ownership or current registration
  • Valid ID
  • Maine residency documentation
  • Payment for fees

Good to know

Non-motorized watercraft (canoes, kayaks, etc.) do not require registration in Maine, though they do require safety equipment. Commercial fishing vessels have separate documentation requirements through the U.S. Coast Guard.
