Register a Boat
Motorized watercraft used on Maine waters must be registered. Registrations are processed at the Town Clerk's office.
Steps

Bring your current registration (renewal) or proof of ownership (bill of sale, manufacturer's certificate of origin, or title).

Provide valid ID and proof of Maine residency.

Pay the registration fee (based on length and horsepower of the vessel).

Receive your registration certificate and decals, which must be displayed on the vessel.

Good to know
Non-motorized watercraft (canoes, kayaks, etc.) do not require registration in Maine, though they do require safety equipment. Commercial fishing vessels have separate documentation requirements through the U.S. Coast Guard.
